AT THE EDGELESSNESS OF LIGHT
Poems

In the Edgelessness of Light

Here in the brilliance of this place,
where light flits from leaf to leaf,
            where light lies resting,
            vibrating on stilts of grass,
            its radiance pulling the shine
            from embarrassed stars,

here where light folds into fading petals
            of wild roses,
            where the feathered light
of lost geese hovers in cottonwoods,
its brightness polished by pollen and honey,

here is where I become a shadow in safety,
            retreating,
            leaving shields and spears behind,
            back to the beginning
            where the edgelessness of light
            flares across your face
and I see you for the first time.
