A Festival of Birds is a flock of poems for lovers and wanderers. McGrath’s poems reveal his encounters with the unique and universal cultures of Japan and Okinawa, where he lived for twelve years. This is poetry for those of us who have strayed into a traditional culture to find ourselves in love and dancing in the shadows and light discovering who we are.
James McGrath, poet, visual artist and teacher, is known for his narrative poetry in the KAET/PBS American Indian Artist Series in the 1970s. He was poet-artist-in-residence with the United States Information Service, Arts America in Yemen, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of the Congo in the 1990s and his 50 year retrospective as artist was held at the Meridian Gallery in San Francisco in 2002. McGrath is the author of many poetry collections from Sunstone Press. He lives in La Cieneguilla, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
